Clínica de Genética y Síndrome de Down del Hospital Hugo Mendoza: 2 años ofreciendo servicios
Los niños con una condición especial no están desatendidos en nuestro país, y es que desde finales de agosto del 2018 está población cuenta con una clínica integral de Genética y Síndrome de Down en el Hospital Pediátrico Dr. Hugo Mendoza (HPHM).
Esta clínica le ofrece el diagnostico desde el momento de su nacimiento, le da el seguimiento con todas las pautas necesarias de acuerdo a su edad, se le brinda la fisioterapia y la estimulación temprana que ayudan a su incorporación lo mejor posible en la sociedad.
“Son niños que no están el abandono, son pacientes que anteriormente se le hacia el diagnostico, no se le daba el manejo ni el seguimiento correcto. A la población se le ha apoyado con una consulta totalmente gratuita y que va a favor de que no estén solos y puedan sentirse acompañados en esta situación”, expresó Katlin de la Rosa, gerente del área.
La doctora De la Rosa expresa que en los casos de los niños de condición Trisomía 21 o Síndrome de Down tienen la capacidad para incorporarse, realizar sus actividades y lograr ir a la escuela sin ningún tipo de problemas.
“El apoyo que podemos darle a estos pacientes dentro de nuestra institución va mas allá de la consulta, está presente con las pruebas que ellos necesitan y los
estudios de imágenes que están a su disposición, libre de costos”, agregó.
Cifras
Durante el primer año se atendieron desde agosto –octubre 53 pacientes; en el 2019, 1678; y 452 durante el transcurso del 2020. 8 de cada 10 pacientes atendidos en Genética comprenden las edades de 0 a 4 años, según estadísticas de la Subdirección de Planificación y Desarrollo del HPHM.
Antes de la pandemia, el hospital tuvo un promedio de 190 consultas mensuales. No obstante la situación continuó el seguimiento de los pacientes de manera virtual.

La señora Lucrecia Gómez, madre de un niño especial, expresa que se siente agradecida con el servicio que se ofrece en la Clínica de Genética del HPHM.
“Mi niño tiene 4 años, tiene un retraso psicomotor. Fue referido a esta consulta Me siento bien con el cuidado y la atención que se le brinda a los pacientes”, agregó.
De igual opinión es Yeisa Florián, madre de un niño de condición especial, quien se siente satisfecha por el seguimiento que tienen con su hijo y las orientaciones que recibe para cuidar a su bebe de un año.
